Railway Tyre Dimensions, Profile and Hardness Requirements

Identify the dimensions, profile definition, hardness criteria and inspection records needed to purchase railway tyres.

Define the finished railway tyre

Railway tyres are separate ring-shaped components. State the outside diameter, inside diameter and tyre width on the drawing, with measurement points, tolerances and any machining allowance clearly identified. Define the tread and flange profile with a controlled drawing rather than a description alone.

Fit and marking

The inside diameter and mating interface requirements are central to the assembly. Confirm the required supply condition, marking and traceability information in the order. For special profiles, provide the actual profile geometry and the intended vehicle application.

Specify hardness without guessing

Give the hardness requirement, scale, measurement location, sampling rule and acceptance criteria specified for the project. Heat treatment and mechanical-property requirements should be included where called out by the drawing or purchase specification. A hardness range from a past project must not be treated as the default for a new order. The 650 pcs railway tyres project documents an order-specific requirement and SGS inspection.

Inspection package for an RFQ

  • Approved tyre drawing and current revision, with OD, ID, width and profile.
  • Material specification and applicable standard when required.
  • Hardness criterion and where to test it.
  • Dimensional, visual, marking, packing and material-document checks.
  • Quantity, witness requirements and requested inspection records.
