Send a controlled drawing package
A railway wheel RFQ begins with a dated drawing and revision identifier. The drawing should identify the finished geometry and any critical interfaces. State whether dimensions refer to the machined wheel or an intermediate condition, and identify units and tolerances clearly.
Geometry and interfaces
- Outside diameter, bore, hub and rim dimensions.
- Tread and flange profile, with its reference drawing or profile definition.
- Machined surfaces, interface fits, datum references and dimensional tolerances.
- Marking locations and any surface-finish requirements shown on the drawing.
Material, application and production basis
Specify the material grade and governing standard with edition when they are known. Describe the vehicle application and any project-specific mechanical properties, heat treatment or hardness requirements. If the grade has not been chosen, flag it for review; do not imply that a supplier can independently approve a material substitution for the vehicle.
Confirm whether the requested scope covers a finished wheel, machining from a supplied blank, or another agreed supply condition. Quantity and delivery requirements affect the proposed manufacturing route and packing plan.
Agree inspection before placing an order
List required material verification, dimensional checks, wheel-profile checks, mechanical testing and any UT or MT requirements. Provide acceptance criteria, witness or hold points, and the documentation to be delivered. Inspection methods depend on the drawing and relevant specification. Review railway wheel inspection requirements when agreeing the scope.
RFQ handoff checklist
- Drawing and revision, profile definition and dimensional tolerances.
- Material and applicable standard, or a clear request for material review.
- Vehicle application, quantity, inspection scope and acceptance criteria.
- Required material certificates, packing and delivery scope.
